PPSL Officials Needed – Training Available
PPSL Swimming Officials Needed – Training Opportunities Available
Every PPSL swim meet depends on certified officials to run smoothly, fairly, and safely. Without enough officials, meets may be delayed, canceled, or unable to be scored.
Officials play a vital role by:
- Ensuring races are judged fairly and consistently
- Enforcing league rules and maintaining the integrity of competition
- Creating a safe and organized environment for all swimmers
No experience? No problem! Training is simple, and experienced officials will guide you through everything you need to know.
Officiating provides a front-row seat to the action and is a great way to support your swimmer, your team, and the league.
In-Person Training
Date: June 2
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Madeira
NEW! Online Training Option Available
We have identified an excellent online training program and will offer it in place of a second in-person training session.
The course is designed primarily for high school swimming officials, so a few sections do not apply to PPSL competition (such as pre-meet guidelines and lap counting). However, the majority of the training is highly relevant and provides excellent preparation.
To access the training:
- Create a free account.
- Complete the free training module.
- Send a screenshot of your completion certificate/screen to your PPSL representative.
The training can be accessed via the following link: Officiating Swimming and Diving Course The course takes approximately 1.5–2 hours to complete. Participants cannot skip ahead, and there are a few knowledge-check questions throughout the course.
Important PPSL Notes
- Most PPSL pools do not have a marked 15-meter line. In these cases, officials will use the opposite-end backstroke flags as a reference point.
- Mason's pool does have a marked 15-meter line. Swimmers competing in A Finals should be aware of this.
- For freestyle events:
- Swimmers may use any stroke on their front or back.
- Swimmers may touch the bottom, walls (when in an end lane), or lane lines, provided they do not use them to propel themselves forward.
- These freestyle allowances do not apply to Individual Medley or Medley Relay events.
PPSL needs every team to step up and help provide officials for the season. Please sign up today or contact your team representative or a PPSL Board member to learn more.
Thank you for helping ensure PPSL swim meets remain consistent, fair, and enjoyable for all swimmers. Together, we can make this season the best one yet!
